The History of Mystery
A great YA library program for teens!
Mike Rose is not just a seasoned professional comedian and magician but he is also a magic historian and award-winning author (Mike’s book, Joe Karson – Beyond Zombie – a biography of the nearly forgotten yet highly influential magician from the early 20th century received the “Library Special Award” from the Book Award Committee of the Society of American Magicians Hall of Fame and Magic Museum). Mike has combined his love of performing with his passion for magic history creating the new show, “The History of Mystery.” This is definitely not your typical magic show! During the performance the audience will not only hear about magic and magicians from the past but they will see antiquarian magic recreated and performed. Many of the pieces of magic apparatus used in the performance are rare antiques from Mike’s personal collection. The historical facts and tidbits about magic’s past make the show fascinating and the performance of the magic makes the show engaging and fun. This show truly is entertaining and educational!
If you’ve had Mike at your library before, then you know how popular his shows are. If you haven’t, just schedule Mike for your library and your patrons will tell you themselves!
The History of Mystery show is designed for teens. Although younger children may enjoy the show, the cerebral nature of the presentation makes this perfect for YA audiences. Get in touch with Mike to discuss the needs of your group and he will be happy to custom tailor the performance to fit your requirements.
“Mike Rose is a longtime favorite at our library. Patrons from eight to eighty regularly ask when he will be returning with a new magic show. Friendly and funny, Mike is a consummate performer.” – Paula Gallagher – Pikesville Branch of BCPL
The program is 45 minutes long and the fee is $325.00 complete (there are no extra fees for travel, etc.). However, if you schedule two or more performances the fee drops to only $295.00 each! The programs don’t have to be at the same location, merely coordinated with other libraries to be on the same day.
You are encouraged to send out a message on your listserv to coordinate with other librarians to get the reduced rate.
